A major Russian drone and missile attack struck a railway hub near Kyiv overnight, damaging a depot and train carriages and forcing cancellations across the region, according to Ukraine’s state railway operator.

The railway said there were no casualties from the overnight strike on the town of Fastiv.
Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities and infrastructure in recent weeks, targeting power stations and railway hubs.
“Russia continues to disregard any peace efforts and instead strikes critical civilian infrastructure, including our energy system and railways,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on X.
“This shows that no decisions to strengthen Ukraine and raise pressure on Russia can be delayed. And especially not under the pretext of peace process,” he added.
Ukrzaliznytsia said on Telegram that several suburban trains near Kyiv and the northeastern city of Chernihiv were cancelled. Emergency services reported a fire and destruction at the railway station and depot, along with further damage in the Chernihiv region.
Power, heat facilities targeted across multiple regions
Ukraine’s military said Russia launched 653 drones and 51 missiles overnight, with Ukrainian forces downing 585 drones and 30 missiles.
Power and heating facilities in Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk regions were also struck, the ministry for development of communities and territories said. It reported on Telegram that 9,500 customers were without heating and 34,000 lacked water supply in the Odesa region.
“Port facilities (in Odesa) have also been attacked: part of the infrastructure has been de-energised, and operators have switched to backup power from generators,” the ministry said.
The energy ministry said strikes hit energy infrastructure in eight regions, causing widespread blackouts.
“Emergency repair work is already underway where safety conditions permit. Energy companies are doing everything possible to restore power to all customers as quickly as possible,” the ministry said on Telegram.
Poland scrambles jets amid regional tensions
Air raid sirens sounded early on Saturday in Lubartow in Poland’s eastern Lublin region, private broadcaster RMF FM reported. The local mayor, Krzysztof Pasnik, said the alert was issued due to the situation in Ukraine.
Poland scrambled jets overnight in response to the Russian attacks, but the Operational Command of the Armed Forces said there had been no violation of Polish airspace.
