When Vladimir Putin touches down in India, he is most likely to reside at the most opulent of accommodations — the presidential suite at the ITC Maurya. This lavish room has hosted many world leaders in the past, including Donald Trump and Barack Obama
India is rolling out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin for his two-day State visit. After arriving at Palam Airport in Delhi this evening, the Russian president will enjoy a private dinner with Prime Minister Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, during which the two are likely to discuss key issues away from the public glare.
And on Friday (December 5), Putin will participate in the 23rd India-Russia Summit during which several agreements are expected to be signed, following it up with a State banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan, hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.
But in between his
jam-packed schedule, Putin will be put up at the iconic ITC Maurya in none other than the presidential suite, which is known for its opulence. Notably, this hotel has become the preferred address for visiting heads of state.
Here’s more about this little slice of heaven that Putin will call home during his 27-hour visit to the country.
An iconic address
Situated on Delhi’s Sardar Patel Marg, the ITC Maurya has a history of housing world leaders. World dignitaries such as the Dalai Lama, former US presidents — George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama — and even former UK PM Tony Blair have been housed here during their stays to India. Interestingly, even US President Donald Trump stayed here when he visited the country back in 2020.
Even
US Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha, and their children stayed at this hotel during the April visit to India, which also saw them travelling to Jaipur and Agra.
At the ITC Maurya, Putin will also have the option of dining at some of India’s most prestigious restaurants such as Bukhara, which specialises in North Indian food, and Avartana, where progressive South Indian cuisine is served, among many others.
The most opulent of suites
While the ITC Maurya houses 411 rooms and 26 suites, it is the presidential suite, named the Chanakya, where Putin will reside.
Spanning 4,600 square feet, the suite is the perfect blend of luxury and heritage. According to some news reports, the charge of this room is anywhere between Rs 8 and 10 lakh a night.
The suite consists of a reception area, a large living room, a study, a peacock themed 12 seater private dining room, an opulent bathroom with mother of pearl accessories and a mini spa and a gymnasium.
Moreover, the suite is decorated with silk-panelled walls, dark wooden floors and priceless artworks, including Tyeb Mehta pieces. Notably, a butler will be accorded to Russian President Putin to ensure that any and all of his wishes are fulfilled. Luxury also extends to the dining setup with meals being served in fine Villeroy & Boch crockery and Cristal De Paris glassware for a refined dining experience.
From the Chanakya suite, Putin will also get to enjoy sweeping views of the Capital.
It is because of these reasons that the presidential suite at the ITC Maurya is the perfect choice for heads of state, including Vladimir Putin.
