Three American fighter planes were shot down in Kuwait in Kuwait in friendly fire, the US Central Command has said.

The US Central Command on Monday said that three US fighter planes were shot down in Kuwait in friendly fire.

The statement came hours after Kuwaiti military said “several” American military aircraft crashed this morning but crews were safe.

US Central Command said three F-15 E fighters were shot down due to an apparent friendly fire incident on Monday at 11:03 pm ET.

“During active combat —that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones— the US Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses. All six air crew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in stable condition,” the statement.

The cause of the incident is under investigation, the US Central Command further said.
