At least 15 people have died after a military cargo plane carrying banknotes crashed near the Bolivian capital of La Paz.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the crash near El Alto airport, near the capital La Paz, but provided no further details.

The Bolivian Air Navigation and Airports authority, NAABOL, said that the aircraft was coming from the eastern city of Santa Cruz and crashed as it landed in the El Alto International Airport, which later suspended operations.

The aircraft was carrying Bolivian banknotes, which scattered upon impact. Footage from local media showed police using tear gas to disperse people who approached the crash site to gather the money.
